Nokia Corp. will try to take wireless e-mail down-market with the launch today of a new, BlackBerry-like device on Canada's largest mobile phone network.
The battle for data-on-the-go customers in North America has so far played out in the high-end of the market among mostly business and government users.
Nokia aims to change that with its latest offering, called the E62, which was designed to appeal to everyone from “soccer moms to CEOs,” said Paul Chapple, general manager of Nokia Products Ltd. Canada.
The Finnish company is not only the world's largest maker of mobile phones. It has also become the biggest seller of digital cameras, which it has helped make a standard feature of phones in the last couple of years, and predicts it will soon become the largest provider of digital music players too. Nokia sold more than 78 million mobile phones in the second quarter.
